Praia do Castelejo
Unterhalb des Miradouro de Cordoama, bei Vila do Bispo, liegt ein weiterer spektakulärer Strand der Algarve-Westküste, der Praia do Castelejo, der vom Miradouro teilweise einsehbar ist. Eine gut asphaltierte, aber abenteuerliche Straße, wenig breiter als ein Radweg, führt in Kurven steil bergab zu diesem Strand. Der verbirgt sich am Zugang hinter einem markanten Felsvorsprung. Ein paar kleine und ein größerer Felsen werden von der Brandung angegangen. Dann zeigt sich, dass die Hinweisschilder auf Gefahren nicht übertreiben. Bei auflaufendem Wasser (Flut) schießen die Wellen bis hinauf zur begrenzenden Felswand. Es besteht die Gefahr, vom Wasser eingeschlossen zu werden.
Below the Miradouro de Cordoama, near Vila do Bispo, lies another spectacular beach on the Algarve’s west coast, Praia do Castelejo, which is partially visible from the Miradouro. A well-paved but adventurous road, little wider than a cycle path, winds steeply downhill to this beach. It is hidden behind a striking rocky outcrop at the entrance. A few small and one larger rock are battered by the surf. Then it becomes clear that the warning signs are not exaggerating. When the tide comes in, the waves shoot up to the limiting rock face. There is a danger of being trapped by the water.

Auch an der Südküste der Algarve hätten wir gern noch ein paar sehenswerte Orte besucht, z.B. besonders attraktive Strände. Aber die sind weiträumig für Wohnmobile gesperrt. Auch die Suche nach einem Stellplatz ist anstrengend. Gefühlt sind um Weihnachten herum die Hälfte aller Wohnmobile Europas an der Algarve unterwegs. Frei stehen ist praktisch unmöglich, kommerzielle Stellplätze sind eng und überfüllt. Wir haben auf einer früheren Südwest-Europa-Reise viel von Portugal und speziell von der Algarve gesehen und erlebt. Daher müssen wir uns dort nicht stressen und sind nach Süd-Spanien weiter gereist.
We would also have liked to visit a few more places of interest on the south coast of the Algarve, too, such as particularly attractive beaches. But these are largely off-limits to motorhomes. Finding a pitch is also exhausting. It feels like half of all motorhomes inof Europe are in the Algarve around Christmas. Free parking is practically impossible, and commercial pitches are cramped and overcrowded. We saw and experienced a lot of Portugal, especially the Algarve, on a previous trip to south-western Europe. So we don’t need to stress ourselves out there and travelled on to southern Spain.
